Freedom Virginia Launches Radio Ad Supporting Affordability Budget by Holding Data Centers Accountable, Not Through Regressive Gaming

Five-Figure Buy Will Back the Ad In Hampton Roads, Richmond, and Northern Va.

RICHMOND, Va. — Today, Freedom Virginia launched a radio ad buy to urge legislators to support a conference budget that invests in middle class tax cuts and affordable healthcare and child care through the Senate’s elimination of the data center tax exemption.

Everyone” is part of a five-figure buy and will run on radio throughout the Hampton Roads, Richmond, and Washington, D.C. metro areas over the next week. The ad compares the two proposals set forth by the General Assembly to generate revenue to fund affordability priorities like health care, child care, and housing: eliminating the data center tax exemption and legalizing more forms of gambling, namely skill games.

Freedom Virginia Co-Executive Director Ryan O’Toole released the following statement:

“Virginia’s hardworking families are struggling right now with an affordability crisis that’s only getting worse as gas prices spike. Anything that comes out of the General Assembly this session should prioritize affordability for Virginians. The Senate made a bold move with its budget proposal, ending the data center tax exemption and repurposing more than $1 billion to invest in the engine of our economy, the middle class. That is exactly the kind of policy that we need right now, holding massive corporations accountable so we can ease the burden on regular people. Not only will this prioritize lower costs, but it’s also overwhelmingly popular across Virginia as 78% of voters support closing tax loopholes for data centers that allow them to pay less than everybody else. It’s time to try bold solutions for age-old problems; the General Assembly and the governor shouldn’t look any further than the Senate for a revenue fix this year.”

Everyone knows costs are going up.

That’s why state lawmakers are working to invest in affordable healthcare, childcare, housing and provide you with a tax cut.

There’s a plan to pay for these things by ending tax breaks for data centers, so they pay their fair share.

But others want to put slot machines in gas stations that target our most vulnerable.

Call your lawmaker to make data centers pay the bill, not you.
