WATCH: ‘Big Pharma or Us’ Features Impacted Virginians Calling on Gov. Youngkin to Sign the Prescription Drug Affordability Board Bill to Lower the Cost of Medicine By March 24

RICHMOND, Va. — Today, Freedom Virginia is launching a video campaign, “Big Pharma or Us,” via Instagram to elevate the voices of hardworking Virginians who are urging Governor Youngkin to prioritize people over Big Pharma profits and sign the Prescription Drug Affordability Board bill, HB1724, patroned by Delegate Karrie Delaney (D-Fairfax), by Monday, March 24.

The campaign features impacted Virginians and advocates sharing their stories in support of the Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) legislation, which would lower the cost of medicine for hardworking Virginians. Freedom Virginia will release multiple new videos daily leading up to the governor’s March 24 deadline. All videos will be accessible on the Freedom Virginia Instagram page @teamfreedomva.

Freedom Virginia co-Executive Director Rhena Hicks released the following statement:

“We’re grateful to each of these advocates for sharing their stories in support of the Prescription Drug Affordability Board. Virginians across party lines support this legislation. Medicine cannot do its job if you cannot afford it, and it’s time to ensure affordable medicine for all Virginians. We are asking Governor Youngkin to choose Big Pharma or us. After taking $60,000 from Big Pharma in 2023 and siding with them by vetoing the bill in 2024, we hope he will change course this year, take the side of his constituents, and sign the Prescription Drug Affordability Board into law.”

2023 AARP poll showed that 75 percent of Virginia voters support the creation of a Prescription Drug Affordability Board. The poll showed that there is bipartisan support across the commonwealth, including 85% of Democrats, 71% of Republicans, and 70% of Independents, who said they are in favor of PDAB legislation.
