RICHMOND, Va. — Yesterday, Politico reported that Representative Jen Kiggans is part of a bipartisan group of legislators working to reach a compromise on expiring Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies. The news comes after Rep. Kiggans voted in November to reopen the federal government without a guarantee on the future of ACA subsidies and in July to gut Medicaid as part of the Big Beautiful Bill.
Freedom Virginia co-Executive Director Rhena Hicks released the following statement:
“Representative Kiggans’ latest move on health care should be taken with a grain of salt. Each time Jen Kiggans says she wants to help Virginians and protect health care, the opposite seems to happen. We’d like to challenge Rep. Kiggans to fulfill her promises this time around. Congress must take up a vote to extend ACA subsidies, and Virginia’s delegation should do everything in its power to make that happen. Rep. Kiggans is in a unique position to defend a multi-year extension of ACA subsidies as a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus, which has taken a leading role in ensuring a bipartisan compromise. We think over 300,000 Virginians at risk of losing affordable health care would agree with us when we say that throwing away a deal to extend these subsidies would be to throw her constituents’ remaining trust out the window. We hope Rep. Kiggans makes the right choice and secures affordable health care for Virginia.”
