RICHMOND, Va. — Freedom Virginia — a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to building a Commonwealth where all families have the financial freedom to thrive — today announced it is endorsing Senator Ghazala Hashmi (D-Chesterfield) in the race for Lieutenant Governor.
Freedom Virginia co-Executive Directors Rhena Hicks and Ryan O’Toole released the following statement:
“We’re proud to endorse Senator Hashmi for Lieutenant Governor in the 2025 general election. We are facing severe economic challenges in Virginia — the cost of everything from groceries to housing continues to rise, and the federal government is taking a chainsaw to our jobs and economy while Glenn Youngkin and Winsome Sears stand idly by. Virginia needs leaders who will stand up and fight for the middle class, rather than selling out to a bunch of billionaires who exploit a corrupt system to raise prices for regular people. We’re excited by Senator Hashmi’s commitment to hardworking Virginians and her promise to create a more affordable and fair economy.
“Senator Hashmi has walked the walk in the Senate, leading on affordable housing, affordable child care, and a fair tax code where corporations and the ultra-wealthy play by the same rules as everyone else. She has consistently shown that she has the middle class’ back, voting for a Prescription Drug Affordability Board to lower the cost of medicine, guaranteed access to Paid Family and Medical Leave, and efforts to ban hidden junk fees to save consumers money.
