Freedom Virginia Congratulates Seven Endorsed Primary Winners

Candidates Will Fight for Economic Security and Affordability for Virginia’s Middle Class

RICHMOND, Va. —  Freedom Virginia — a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to building a Commonwealth where all families have the financial freedom to thrive — today congratulated its endorsed candidates on winning their primary elections. The following pro-middle class champions will now advance to the November general election:

Statewide:

  • Attorney General: Fmr. Delegate Jay Jones

House of Delegates:

  • Delegate Patrick Hope (HD-1)

  • May Nivar (HD-57)

  • Leslie Mehta (HD-73)

  • Lindsey Dougherty (HD-75)

  • Delegate Delores McQuinn (HD-81)

  • Kacey Carnegie (HD-89)

Freedom Virginia co-Executive Directors Rhena Hicks and Ryan O’Toole released the following statement:

“We congratulate these candidates on their victories, and we look forward to working with them to win in November. Virginians see a corrupt system that doesn’t work for them, and are looking for bold, immediate solutions to make the economy affordable. Each of these candidates has shown that they will fight for Virginians and work to create a commonwealth where hardworking people can thrive. Virginians, like the rest of Americans, are fed up with the chaos in the federal government and want candidates who will prioritize making life cheaper for the middle class. Economic security is top of mind for everyone right now, and these candidates will ensure Virginians have access to more affordable medicine, housing and groceries; guaranteed paid leave; and they will fight for a fair tax system that cuts taxes for the middle class, not wealthy special interests.

“We commend Senator Aaron Rouse on a race well-run and focused on a bold economic platform, and extend our congratulations to Senator Ghazala Hashmi on her victory. We have long admired Senator Hashmi’s dedication to protecting health care for women, standing with workers, and fighting for affordability. We applaud her campaign and look forward to working with her.

“We extend a particular congratulations to former Del. Jay Jones, and are excited to support his campaign for Attorney General. Virginians know that the number one cause of high prices is corporate price gouging, and we know Jay will be a champion for consumer protection, holding big corporations accountable for price gouging everything from prescription drugs to groceries.”

This year, Freedom Virginia advocated for a fairer tax system alongside other policies to ensure hardworking families can get ahead. These candidates have shown a commitment and willingness to build on the momentum made during the 2025 General Assembly session to build a fairer tax system for middle class Virginia families, lower the cost of medicine, expand access to Paid Family and Medical Leave, ban hidden fees, and to build more affordable homes so consumers have more choices.
